Thank you for your interest in our 200 hour yoga teacher training program for 2018! We are very excited to share our knowledge and love of yoga with you.

Firelight Yoga is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance. Our 200 hour program is designed to deepen your practice and give you the skill set to teach others along with guidance and tips for creating a fulfilling and successful career as a yoga instructor. We offer a multi-disciplinary program that will introduce you many facets of yoga. Completion of this program is an incredible achievement. However, the practice of yoga is a lifelong endeavor, and a true student of yoga will remain a student their entire lives. We do offer comprehensive 300 hour and 500 hour courses for continuing education and greater in-depth study. We will also be offering continuing education programs for additional modules such as Sculpt Yoga and Yin Yoga immersions. While training and in-between trainings, keep in mind that yoga is everywhere all the time. You are always practicing how to apply and integrate it into your everyday life.

In this program, you will develop a strong working understanding of yoga alignment, meditation, pranayama and yogic philosophy. You will know how to teach classes for all types of students and how to integrate ancient yoga teachings with practical techniques for the modern-day student. This is an opportunity to learn a varied, unique, and valuable skill set that will enrich your life as a human being and open many doors both personally and professionally.

  • Immerse yourself in the study of asana, pranayama, and meditation to further your own personal practice and gain the tools to teach others.

  • Understand how ancient yogic philosophy is relevant to our lives right now; Exploring disciplines and practices that can (and hopefully will!) cultivate deep personal transformation within yourself, your life, and your presence in the world.

  • Learn the foundations of anatomy specific to yoga taught to you by a DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) and E-RYT 200 Yoga Alliance Certified teacher.

  • Refine and deepen your awareness of alignment in postures.

  • Practice intelligent sequencing that gives you the tools to design safe, effective yoga classes suitable for any student.

  • Build and refine your communication skills both on an interpersonal level, and as guiding instructor of yoga.

  • Learn to teach our signature Hot-FLY Sequence.

  • Grow as a human being! Yoga will change how you see the world. Be ready to change your life!

To help you master this material, we also provide each student the Firelight Yoga Teacher Training manual. This manual contains hundreds of pages of summaries and explorations covering key teachings, practices and the history of yoga. It will also house a full library of annotated posture photographs. You will add your own insights and realizations to this book throughout the program with blank pages provided to you so you are able to journal as we lecture and work. This manual (along with your text books) will be a resource you will refer to for many years after the program.

This yoga teacher training will begin February 2, 2018 and will take place over the course of ten consecutive weekends.
(February 2 – April 8)

Our meeting times will be:

  • Fridays 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

  • Saturdays 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

  • Sundays 8:00 am to 5:30 pm

You must have a regular yoga practice of at least 6 months with moderate proficiency in the following: Surya Namaskar A & B, Virabhadrasana 1 & 2, Sirsasana A (at the wall) by the time you begin the training. If you have any injuries or medical conditions that may impact your ability to teach or participate in any portion of the teacher training, we require that you list it on your application for our review and consideration. We want you to find success in our program, and the intention with these requirements is to determine your overall ability and depth of understanding of yoga and ensure our training is the best fit for you!

If you are very new to the practice of yoga, don’t worry, there’s no rush – simply practice more, embark on a journey of self-study, and come back next year! Yoga is a life science and there is a lot to digest; much of which comes through naturally with a steady and consistent practice. Allow the practice to unfold for you and if you are still interested, know that we host trainings annually.

If you are interested in applying to our yoga teacher training or wonder if it might be right for you, download this form, fill out completely and return to Firelight Yoga as instructed on the application.

It’s so important to feel comfortable with the teachers, the curriculum, and to be clear in your motivations and interests for taking the program. We want you to have a meaningful and transformative experience! With this intention, we feel it’s important to learn more about who you are, what you want to gain from this training, understand your background, and go over any questions you might have!

Meet Your Trainers

Holly Bussmus & Jessica Bartley

We opened Firelight Yoga in January of 2015 and have been friends for over a decade. We started a regular yoga practice together while living in Boise, ID and did our 200-hour teacher training together there in spring of 2012. As RYT’s we taught hundreds of classes at four studios in the Boise area before moving to Portland in fall of 2013 to fulfill our dream of owning our own studio. With a lot of hard work and dedication, Firelight Yoga has become the place we always dreamed it would be – a sanctuary for peace and happiness for everyone that walks in the door. The FLY community that has grown in the last three years is special and fills our hearts with gratitude and joy. We are so thrilled to be able to offer this teacher training for you, and be able to guide and support you as you begin this amazing journey!

Lindsey Holy

Lindsey has been studying and practicing yoga for over a decade. Getting her start not in the physical (asana) practice, but in the philosophical (Samkhya lineage), her love and study of meditation, yogic theory, and the life science of yoga moved her towards her career as an instructor. With over 1,200 training hours and 2,000+ teaching hours Lindsey was called on as Lead Trainer for Firelight’s Teacher Training Program(s). The 200 Hour Teacher Training that she has designed encompasses the detail and mystery of the practice.

Lauren Pedula

Lauren has extensive knowledge in anatomy as a Doctor of Physical Therapy. She merges her understanding of the body with yoga to provide a unique platform for teaching anatomy of yoga to current yoga instructors, yoga teacher trainees, and yoga students.  Her background as a runner who found yoga to balance the physical demands of her sport continues to fuel her passion to introduce other endurance athletes to yoga.

We hope this information sparks excitement for the coming months. Click here to download the 200 hour teacher training application. Applications will be accepted and reviewed starting in September and the Q&A meeting will take place in November.
